Isaiah 53

1. Few People Believe the Gospel Message! Verse 1-3

Christ Crucified! – 1 Corinthians 1:20-25

To The Jews (Religious) – Stumbling Block! John 6:47-70

 Skandalon! – Scandalous

To the Gentiles (Pagan) – Foolishness! Moronic! Doesn’t Make Sense!

1 Corinthians 2:14 - But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

To Those Who Believe! – The Power of God!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in It the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

2. The Few People Who Believe The Gospel Find The Power of God For Salvation! Verses 4-12

Breifs Bore, Sorrows Carried!

  • Transgressions Dealt With!
  • Iniquities, Taken Away!
  • A Future Certain of Spiritual Health!

Why Christ Crucified?

  • Man’s Sin and How It Must Be Dealt with! (Wrath of God Against Sin)
  • Heaven’s Requirement! Without the shedding of Blood there is no Forgiveness!
  • God’s Decree! His Decision! (Ephesians 1:4-5)
  • The Prophetic Promise! Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53

The Lord’s Supper – A Proclamation of Christ Crucified!

1 Corinthians 11:23- Three Things That Are Important to this Passage.

1. What the Bread and the Blood Means!

This is My Body!

  • He Bore Our Sins in His Body!

1 Peter 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

  • He Took Our Sins Away!

John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

  • He Bore our Grief – He Carried Our Sorrows. Is. 53:4

This Cup is the new Covenant in My Blood! Through His Blood

  • He Cleanses and Forgives Us! Cleansing

Hebrews 9: 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 9:22 And according to the Law, {one may} almost {say}, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

  • He Justifies, Reconciles and Sanctifies Us! Rom. 5:6-11

Hebrews 13:12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

  • He Gives Us Victory!

Revelation 12:11 "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb

2 . When We Partake, We Proclaim Christ Crucified!

3. Avoiding Judgment, We Examine Ourselves So to Come to the Table in A Worthy Manner!

Let Us Examine Ourselves!

  • Idolatry – Do you love anything or anyone more than God?
  • Immorality – Have you participated in any immorality?
  • Lustful thoughts * Dirty Stories
  • Course Jesting * Pornography
  • Adultery
  • Fornication
  • Pride – Are any of these things true of your life?
  • Un-forgiveness * Anger
  • Critical spirit * Jealousy
  • Fault-finder * Bitterness
  • Always Right (Pride) * Arrogance
  • Greed
  • Do you covet those things you do not have?
  • Have you stolen?
  • Have you cheated? (income tax?)
  • Are you a lover of money and things?
  • Are you entangled with the affairs of this life?
  • Do you have material lust?
  • Disobedience
  • Is there anything that God has told you to do that you have not done?
  • Is there anything that God has told you to give up and you have not given it up?
  • Do you honor your mother and father?
  • Selfishness
  • Do you give cheerfully?
  • Are you stingy?
  • Do you give tithes and offerings?
  • Are you disappointed when things do not go your way?
  • Do you love your neighbor as you love yourself?
  • Are your statements mostly about yourself?
  • Do you get your feelings hurt easily?
  • Are you self centered?
  • Dishonesty
  • Do you lie? Do you stretch the truth? Do you gossip?
  • Family
  • Husband, do you love your wife, Honor her? Live with her in an understanding way?
  • Husband, are you harsh or embittered toward your wife?
  • Wife do you respect and honor your husband?
  • Dad/Mom, are you bringing up your children in the Lord?
  • Dad/Mom, are you provoking your children to anger?
  • Dad/Mom, are you the spiritual leader of your home?
  • Dad/Mom, are you living Christ-like in your home?
  • Self-Discipline
  • Are you disciplined in the area of your appetite?
  • Do you over indulge in your eating?
  • Do you take care of your body?
  • Do you have a problem with alcohol?
  • Are you filled with the Spirit or does some other substance influence you?
  • Have you neglected service to the body of Christ?
  • Do you take care of the things that God has given you?

The Fruit of the Spirit

  • Do you show love?
  • Do you possess joy? Or are you a grumbler and complainer w/ an embittered spirit?
  • Do you have peace? Or is there dissension, factions, fighting arguing and irreconcilable differences? Worry? Fear? Anxiety? A lack of trust in His work?
  • Are you patient? With your family? With your children? With your employer or employees? With your church leaders?
  • Are you kind in word and in deed?
  • Do you practices the goodness of God? Or are you mean, grumpy and critical?
  • Are you faithful? Can you be depended on? Are you a person of your word? Do you finish a job you have started? Do you work in your field as unto the Lord?
  • Are You gentle? Or are you harsh?
  • Do you practice self-control? With your tongue? With your appetites? With your actions?

What About the Areas of Fear, Worry, Anxiety?

What About the areas of guilt, regret, accusation, feelings of unworth,:  

ARE YOU WALKING BY THE SPIRIT?
