The Necessity and Power of Prayer!

Luke 11:1-12

Daniel 6:1-11 – Daniel’s Habit of Prayer!

Petition: The Things You Ask For from God!

Supplication: The Seeking of God’s Favor!

Philippians 4:5 The Lord is near. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I. Jesus Prayed! Verse 1

John 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

John 12:49 "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 "I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."

II. Jesus Taught Prayer! Verse 2-12

Luke 11:1-12 – Teach Us to Pray!

The Lord’s Prayer - Two Thoughts run through the prayer and six petitions will ultimately accomplish the two thoughts:

  • 1. The Context of Prayer – Communal!
    • We Pray together!
    • When we Pray Alone, We Pray For the Community!
  • 2. The Content of Prayer! To God and For Man!

God’s Glory and Man’s Need! Matthew 6:9-13

  • God’s Glory for His Name, His Rule and His Purposes!
  • Man’s Need For Daily Bread, Forgiveness and Deliverance!

    3. The Persistence of Prayer!

III. Jesus Prays Even Now! Romans 8:26-39
